Current Funding Efforts

Since its independence from the State Bar in 2001, CCBA’s primary funding source has been the voluntary contributions collected through the affirmative check-off on the annual State Bar fee invoice. As announced at the September 2018 Annual Conference, this will no longer be the case.  The Board’s top priority for at least 2019 and 2020 is to actively diversify CCBA’s revenue.  To that end, on November 3, 2018, the Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution to develop and implement a plan, beginning immediately, to explore and develop new revenue opportunities.  These include developing relationships with attorneys who have supported CCBA in [...]


In 2018, the CCBA was involved in 44 pieces of legislation as sponsor, source, co-sponsor or supporter. The Governor having completed his deliberations, the overall tally for CCBA bills came to 24 bills signed into law, three vetoed, and17 that perished earlier in the legislative process. The 24 bills signed into law is the most the Conference has seen since its creation as part of the State Bar in the 1930's. The CCBA experienced its greatest success with the bills that we were most involved in shepherding through the legislative process as sponsor, source or primary co-sponsor. Chief Justice to Accept John Van De Kamp Award at CCBA Reception September 14, 2018 – Newly Formed CLA to Sponsor and Participate as Well

The Conference of California Bar Associations is proud to announce that the John Van de Kamp Justice Through Laws Award will be presented to Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye at our Conference this year. The Chief Justice plans to accept the award in person at CCBA’s annual Celebration of Excellence reception, hosted by Chair Phyllis Kupferstein on September 14, 2018, at the Marriott Marquis San Diego.  We were honored to have Attorney General Xavier Becerra personally accept the inaugural Van de Kamp Award at last year’s Conference.
